The findings come just weeks after the .

RCGP experts have argued that both boys and girls should be receiving the vaccine now. RCGP immunisation lead Dr George Kassianos told GPonline recently: ‘We really need every child – every boy, every girl – to be immune to this viral disease that we have a vaccine for.

‘In countries like Australia, they have published superb results on reducing the incidence of all these HPV infections in girls and boys if you vaccinate them as well – much better than if you just vaccinate girls.’

A total of 75% of 268 GPs who took part in the poll said that HPV jabs should be offered to boys. Just one in 10 respondents said they should not, while the rest were unsure.

One GP responding to the poll said: 'Boys are a vector of transmission. Men die of penile cancer, anal cancer and preventable head and neck cancer. Tragedy.'

Another GP said widening the vaccination to boys would improve herd immunity, while another respondent said the failure to offer boys the jab was 'prejudice masquerading as economics'.
